One woman is dead and another woman has been arrested and taken to hospital after a domestic incident in the Metrotown area early Thursday morning.

According to Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the RCMP's Integrated

Homicide Investigation Team, Burnaby RCMP responded to a domestic incident just before 6: 30 a.m. at the Park Avenue Towers at 4134 Maywood Street.

"At the scene, Burnaby RCMP and B.C. Ambulance paramedics attended to the scene and discovered a deceased female and an injured female," said Pound. "IHIT was then called in."

Pound said the injured woman was arrested and taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries. Names of both women will not be released pending notification of next of kin.

Pound added that she couldn't comment on the cause of death and the investigation is still in its early stages.

The apartment com-plex was relatively quiet Thursday morning even though police were taking names and interviewing residents as they entered and left the apartment.

The apartment complex police investigators were concentrating on is called One Park Avenue and appears to be 17 storeys tall.

Construction in the parking area of the complex continued all Thursday morning, and there was little evidence of police tape outside the apartment.

Bryan Gall lives across the street and said he was going to work at 6: 45 a.m. when he saw a swarm of police cars.

"It was a bit surprising," he said. "Normally this is a very quiet area and there are a lot of older people who live in this neighbourhood."
