Don't trash that Christmas tree just yet. The City of Burnaby is collecting used trees in the coming weeks.

Residents who live north of Highway 1 can leave trees outside on Monday, Jan. 7, while people on the south side are instructed to leave trees out on Monday, Jan. 14. For multi-family residences, Christmas tree collection happens on Jan. 2 and 3. Residents are instructed to place trees outside on Jan. 2 for pickup, and they will be collected on either day.

The city's Still Creek recycling depot also accepts Christmas trees free of charge from Burnaby residents, but proof of residency is required.

You can also have your tree chipped for a fee, and the proceeds go to charity. For charity chipping events, call the Recycling Council of B.C. hotline at 604-732-9253.
