Burnaby South is basketball central when it comes to the local hoop scene.
The Burnaby South Rebels teams combined to win five of six league titles in the junior, juvenile and Grade 8 Burnaby-New West league playoff finals.
In the junior boys, Burnaby South out-lasted New Westminster 66-50 for the title, while the junior girls final saw the Rebels prevail 27-18 over the Hyacks.
All-stars for the junior boys were: Burnaby South's Jiordano Khan and Baltej Sohal, New West's Mayen Gor and Simon Cruz, Alpha's Marco Dasovic, and Byrne Creek's Marco Kang.
In Grade 9 boys basketball, the Rebels proved too hot to handle, topping Burnaby Central 59-31 in the league final.
Picking up all-star honours were Burnaby South's Jordan Bertram and Matthew Pineda, Central's Dylan Coleman and Lynden Duggan, Byrne Creek's Russell Asaukaye, Burnaby North's Matthew Conder, and from New West, Kirk Bothwell and Drake Traverse.
The Rebels swept the Grade 8 finals, with the boys beating Alpha, and the girls topping Central 47-22.
The lone loss in the league championship for Burnaby South came in the Grade 9 girls tilt, where Burnaby Mountain carried off the banner with a 52-46 victory.
