Choi, Ho collect Burnaby Open tennis titles

The Richmond tennis pro had earlier defeated the No. 3-ranked player to advance to the final. He would pick up his second title of the weekend, working with open doubles partner Fiachra Michael Lennon to upend No. 1-ranked doubles team of Luigi Albarracin and Ho 6-4, 6-3.

Sattawatt Dueansawang bested No. 2 rated Sunil Dutt in the men’s 4.5 singles division by a close, 6-4, 7-6 score, while Steven Bower emerged first in men’s 4.0 singles by topping Alfonso Napoletano 6-4, 7-5 in a well-played final.

The men’s 4.0 doubles final was won by Joe Guiotto and Dong Won Kang, who defeated Eugene Joy and Daniel Perazzolo 6-2, 6-2.

In the women’s open singles final, Sophia Ho was equally as efficient in protecting her top ranking, besting No. 2 Jayden Nielsen 6-4, 6-3 for the Burnaby title.

In the women’s 4.5 singles division, No. 1-ranked Wendy Banham defeated No. 2 Natalia Rusanova 6-0, 6-1, while Aska Nakamura, rated No. 2 at the start of the competition, topped the women’s 4.0 division by edging Jacqueline Luft 6-3, 6-1.

In women’s 4.5 doubles, the team of Jessica De Brito and Marianna Mueller successfully defended their No. 1 ranking by rallying to best Sylvie Quenneville and Sharon Sauder 4.6, 6-1, 6-2.

The wheelchair A final saw Barry Henderson edge No. 1 seeded Thomas Venos 6-4, 6-4.

The mixed 4.5 doubles final was captured by Kiet Do and Eriko Iwasaki, who topped Grant Clark and Christine Olejnik 6-0, 6-3.
