For the first race of the season, the results were pretty mid-season form.
Cross-country runners from Burnaby secondary schools were part of a cross-district meet in Coquitlam, pitting Burnaby/New West and Coquitlam runners in the first of a series of meets between the two.
Burnaby had its share of good results from the inaugural meet, which happened at Mundy Park last week.
Burnaby Mountain’s Isabella Brunoro finished second among junior girls, crossing the line at 14:14 minutes, just 13 seconds back of Dr. Charles Best’s Lucy Von Stefenelli. Mountain teammates Krista Traboulay, at sixth, Hannah Vorell, in eighth, and Stephanie Lim, in ninth, rounded out Burnaby’s top-10 results.
In the junior boys event, Burnaby Central’s Ryan Goudron placed third with a time of 12:32, trailing Terry Fox’s Jacob Wadhwani’s first-place time of 12:05. Crossing the finish line in eighth was Alpha’s Henry Ruckman-Utting, while Mountain’s Martin Melisik came in 10th.
In the senior races, Alpha’s Aidar Eshim Bekov finished ninth overall, with a time of 18:07, to lead the local boys’ charge, while Burnaby Central’s Christina Heslop, at 21:02, was eighth in the girls’ event. In 11th spot was Burnaby North’s Pamela Dragolov.
Bekov was just 1:40 back of first place Brendan McLaughlin of Heritage, while Heslop placed 1:59 back of B.C. Christian’s Maddie Gibson.
