Simon Fraser University finished out of the basement in Great Northwest conference varsity football this season.
The Clan finished the grid season with a conference record of 2-6, following a comeback 29-point fourth quarter that gave SFU a 35-24 win over Central Washington in its home finale on Saturday.
SFU engineered two long scoring drives and also tallied a six-pointer on a 43-yard interception return from Adam Berger to post the unlikely comeback.
Trailing 17-6 early in the final quarter, quarterback Trey Wheeler engineered a nine-play, 64-yard drive capped off by a 15-yard touchdown run from Bo Palmer to start the rally.
The next time SFU had the ball, Wheeler then hit Bobby Pospischil with a nine-yard pass for the goahead score, completing a seven-play, 73-yard drive. The big play in the Clan's second TD drive was a 37-yard strike to Tore Corrado.
With the score, SFU led 21-17 with just five minutes left to play.
Corrado, with six receptions for 105 yards, and Pospischil combined for 168 yards in the air for the Clan.
On the first play of Central's next drive, Berger picked off Wildcat QB Jose Mohler for what proved to be the game-winning TD.
Greg Bowcock replaced Wheeler for the final SFU TD after Central's fourthdown gamble inside the visitor's five-yard line failed. Bowcock ran in SFU's fifth score from one yard out.
Wheeler completed 20 of 28 passes for 266 yards and two TDs. Palmer led the Clan in rushing with 75 yards on the ground. He also had four catches for 57 yards.
New Westminster Secondary grad Casey Chin led the Clan defence with eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Central Washington led 3-0 at the half in what began as a defensive battle.
