She’s going to need a bigger trophy shelf.
Burnaby’s Seina Kashima picked up another honour this week when she was named the 2018 Canada West women’s soccer Player of the Year.
Kashima, a Burnaby South alumna, is capping a tremendous fifth season with the Trinity Western University Spartans, helping pilot the squad to the No. 1 ranking in the nation.
The 21-year-old set the Canada West single-season assists record, with 13 in 14 games, earlier this year, and counted seven goals to finish tied for the conference lead in points (20). It also tied her for third-best single-season points total in conference history.
Kashima’s season has included three game-winning goals, as the squad rolled to a 12-2-0 finish. Her total of 40 assists is an all-time conference record and puts her third in all-time Canada West points tally with 58.
“I am really pleased for Seina as she has had a wonderful season and indeed a very special career,” remarked Trinity Western head coach Graham Roxburgh. “She has been the attacking force this year and throughout her career that helped lead her team to accomplish some terrific achievements.”
Trinity Western hosts the Canada West Final Four this weekend, battling UBC, Calgary and Alberta for a berth to the national championships. The Spartans play Alberta in a 6 p.m. semifinal tonight (Friday). The final is slated for Saturday, 5 p.m. at the Langley campus.
