The Burnaby Speed Skating Club presents an open opportunity for people of all ages to lace up the long blades and experience the fun and excitement of speed skating in a free National Skating Day event at the Kensington Park Arena (6159 Curtis Ave.) this coming Saturday.
Learn more about the sport, the technique, equipment and rules with this primer for short track speed skating.
Club members will be present to help participants get started, from putting the blades on to learning the finer strokes and strides of the sport.
The free program begins at 3 p.m. with a brief 20-minute off-ice introduction, explaining the equipment and the track, rules and safety issues. Participants will get to skate and learn more about the sport from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Light snacks and warm beverages will be offered at the end of the event.
