Simon Fraser University finished 15th in the NCAA Div. 2 Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings, a competition that measures the overall success of university collegiate athletic programs.
Simon Fraser is the highest-ranked university in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference after women's and men's golf and women's track and field turned in outstanding performances in the first round of spring championships.
SFU finished 15th with 541 points, equaling its highest finish ever. The Burnaby Mountain program, which routinely won the award when it competed in the NAIA, finished 15th in 2017 as well.
Grand Valley State University won the 2018/19 competition with 1004 points.
SFU had 10 programs compete in NCAA post-season competitions this past season.
SFU female golfer Jaya Rampuri enjoyed a historic run at the NCAA Div. 2 Women's Golf championships to finish in a tie for seventh place, while Kylie Jack was 57th, after the team placed sixth at the western regional. The men's golf team was 12th at its regional championship. Women's track and field finished 15th at the NCAA championships with All-American performances from Julia Howley, Alana Mussatto and Sophie Dodd.
Simon Fraser had two top-15 finishes in men's (9th) and women's (13th) swimming, and men's indoor track (21) and men's wrestling (28) performed well at nationals. Points for the Directors' Cup are based on order of finish in NCAA Championships.
Earlier in the year, SFU collected points after top 15 finishes at the NCAA Championships by men's (14th) and women's (10th) cross country teams and the men's soccer program reaching the second round of the NCAA championship tournament.
Since joining NCAA in 2010 and becoming eligible for post-season competition in 2012, SFU has finished 15th twice, in 2016/17 and this current season, and 26th in 2014/15.
The Clan dominated competition for the award when it competed in the NAIA, winning six times, including five in a row from 1996-2001.
