Simon Fraser University nearly doubled its lead atop the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League with a pair of wins against Eastern Washingon University last week. The Clan opened the weekend series with a 7-0 win on Remembrance Day.

The Clan opened the weekend series with a 7-0 win on Remembrance Day. The visitors then beat EWU 6-4 on the Saturday.

Jono Ceci was a game star in both outings, taking the first star in Friday's match and the second star in the latter contest, scoring a goal and one assist in each of the two games.

Kyle Leung claimed the third star on Saturday with a goal and two helpers for the Clan.

On Friday, Evan Kurylo was hardly tested, stopping 16 shots for the shutout.

Seven individual players scored goals in the 7-0 win, including Ben Van Lare, who added to his leagueleading scoring total with the game's opening goal.

Van Lare also tallied in the first period of the second game, giving SFU a short-lived 2-1 lead with a league-best 12th marker this season.

Andrew Parent had to work for his win the following night, turning aside 27 shots for his third consecutive victory.

Barry Moscone had two thirdperiod goals, including the gamewinner, to give SFU the 6-4 win.

The unbeaten Clan improved its overall record to 8-0-1 with the backto-back wins.

SFU is back at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Nov. 26 against the same Eastern Washington club.

CLAN WIN COMEBACK

Simon Fraser University posted a 74-70 comeback win over Notre Dame de Namur in its men's basketball season-opener on Saturday.

Justin Brown, who missed all of the preseason with injury, scored 23 points, including 11-of-15 from the foul line.

Javari Williams led the Clan with 25 points and 11 rebounds.

"We didn't play very well in the first half. We played selfish basketball. Coach Blake tod us we had to start playing together and that's what we did," said Brown in an SFU press release.

Trailing by as much as 18 points early in the third quarter, SFU began to stage a comeback on back-toback three-pointers from Connor Lewis and Brown. Two more treys by Ibrahim Appiah and Williams brought the home team Clan to within three points.

John Bantock finally tied the contest at 53-53 with a bomb from downtown at the seven-minute mark of the fourth quarter.

Williams gave SFU a two-point lead on a slam dunk following a steal with just over a minute left to play.

Matt Ravio hit a pair of free throws to ice the win for the Clan.

GOLFER FINISHES NINTH

Michael Belle of Burnaby led the Clan to a sixth-place finish at the recent Cal State Marcos Fall Golf Classic on Nov. 8.

Belle, a St. Thomas More Collegiate grad, finished in a tie for ninth place overall, firing a steady three-round 75-74-75 - 224 to top all Clan golfers.

Jeremy Sanders of Redlands University placed first overall, finishing the tournament with a 214 total, buoyed by a second-round 67.

Jordan Melanson carded a 233 to finish second-best among Clan golfers.

Senior Nate Beauchamp finished in 25th place, one shot behind Melanson following a final round 81. T.J. McColl tied with Beauchamp at 234.

Freshman John Mlikotic place 44th overall despite a seven-stroke improvement on Day 2.

The SFU men's golf team will be off until February, when it takes part in the California State UniversityBakersfield Classic.
