Burnaby - Entering their second season competing in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II, the Simon Fraser University Clan women's basketball team will open up its 2011-12 regular season schedule in California before playing their conference and home opener on Dec. 1 against Seattle Pacific University.

"This year's schedule was a challenge to get extra home games," said head coach Bruce Langford. "We were able to schedule some quality tournaments which will give us an opportunity to be more competitive for challenging conference games."

The Clan will take on Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Vancouver Island University and Capilano University in exhibition games on Nov. 1, 4 and 11, respectively. Following that, SFU will travel to California to compete in a tournament, hosted by Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California. The team will then finish the month of November competing in the Monterey Bay Tournament in Monterey Bay, California.

SFU will renew acquaintances with the defending GNAC champions, Western Washington University on Dec. 31. The Vikings defeated the Clan in their lone playoff game by a score of 73-60 back on Feb. 28. SFU will host the University of Manitoba for the first time since the 2009-10 season on Dec. 28 before taking on Trinity Western University the following day at the Langley Events Centre.

The 2011-12 schedule features a strong balance between home and road games as the Clan will go at least two weeks in between home games.

SFU will play their final home game of the season on Feb. 18 against Northwest Nazarene University before closing out their 2011-12 season on the road with games against Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific on Feb. 21 and 23, respectively.
