SAINT MORITZ — Canada's Courtney Hoffos claimed silver in women's ski cross at the freestyle skiing world championships on Friday.
World Cup champion Fanny Smith of Switzerland won gold, while Germany's Daniela Maier took bronze.
India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C., finished eighth.
Hoffos, from Windermere, B.C., had three podium finishes on this season's World Cup tour, including a silver at the Canadian stop at Craigleith Ski Club earlier this month.
It is the 27-year-old's first medal at the world championships.
"It feels amazing and I’m very proud to have this medal around my neck," Hoffos said. "There’s a lot of tactics and passing on this course and today it worked well for me. We’re all a little tired at this time of year so to get a result like this in such a big event is pretty special.”
"I’m feeling really good right now. I want to keep it going tomorrow in the team event and then into the last World Cup weekend."
Switzerland’s Ryan Regez won the men’s event, followed by Germany’s Tobia Mueller and Japan’s Ryo Sugai. Calgary’s Jared Schmidt placed ninth.
