A Burnaby McDonalds is offering drive-thru only today after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
The Edmonds MacDonald’s at 7229 Kingsway got word of the positive test on Wednesday, according to a news release McDonald’s Canada sent out later that evening.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitization by a certified third party,” stated the release.
The employee’s last shift at the restaurant was from noon to 4 p.m. on Sept. 6, according to the company, and all crew members who may have been in close contact with the infected worker are being asked to self-quarantine until further information is available.
The company is also encouraging any guests who may have visited the restaurant on Sept. 6 to follow the direction of the BC Centre for Disease Control at www.bccdc.ca.
“We are working to ensure our timeline to reopen happens as quickly and safely as possible as we know our guests depend on their local McDonald’s, and we are committed to doing our part to help our communities,” stated the release.
As of Thursday morning, the dining room was still closed, but the drive-thru was serving customers.
There were no signs explaining the reason for the closure.
The Burnaby restaurant was the third Lower Mainland McDonald’s to be temporarily shuttered because of COVID.
Last Tuesday, a Richmond McDonald’s was closed after a worker reported they had tested positive, and a Surrey McDonald’s was shut down in the first week of July after a worker exposure.
