HALIFAX — Nova Scotia's police oversight agency is investigating after a man died Friday night following an altercation with police.

Halifax Regional Police say officers responded to a call for service in Bedford, N.S., at around 10:20 p.m., where the man was having a "mental health episode."

A police news release today says the man was Tasered after he became aggressive, though it does not say how many officers were involved or how many used their Tasers.

The release says police handcuffed the man and called emergency health services for support.

Police say the man's health deteriorated and officers tried to save his life and administered a Naloxone treatment, but he was pronounced dead after he was taken to a hospital.

The Serious Incident Response Team said in a separate release that it has assumed responsibility for the investigation, as its mandate is to examine any deaths, serious injuries, sexual assaults and intimate partner violence that may involve police in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
