Dear Editor:
After reading a recent letter about overcrowded hospitals, I had to write about the experience at the Burnaby Hospital a couple of weeks ago. The situation in the hospitals is shocking. My husband had to sleep in the hallway for a few nights after coming out of the emergency ward. His belongings got lost and never found. Overhead lights and people walking by made his stay very stressful.
The government has to allocate more funds to the hospitals. The situation is so grave that I am afraid just thinking about the fact that one day I need help. We older people have paid taxes, and our children and grandchildren are paying taxes. It's high time more funds are allocated to health care.
Olympic Village, sport arenas, highway to Whistler, twinning the Port Mann and Canada Line to Richmond are being financed, while sick people and the healthcare workers are being ignored. Burnaby is working at 110 per cent capacity, I was told. It's high time we think about these issues at the next election.
