Dear Editor:
Re: Muslims gather at Burnaby mosque, Burnaby NOW, Aug. 24.
I always thought that Canada was a secular country and that the separation of church and state was paramount. I was surprised to read in Jennifer Moreau's column that representatives of Canada's national police force, the RCMP and members of the local fire department, had attended a Muslim religious ceremony at a local mosque, marking the end of the Muslim holy month of fasting, Ramadam.
The mayor and local dignitaries supposedly representing the municipality (that is, you and I) sent letters. This is a dangerous and unneeded precedent and should stop right now. What's next, Shariah law?
