Letter: Don't put Burnaby City Hall in this urban 'oasis'

Save this "little oasis of beauty, rest and relaxation," this writer pleads.
Burnaby City Hall 2
On the move?: Burnaby city hall shouldn't be relocated to the Metrotown library site, this resident says.

Editor:

No, please do not put the new city hall in the Burnaby library site.

Presently, it is a little oasis of beauty, rest and relaxation in middle of an ever-expanding city. Further, it is a site used by so many groups, especially the elderly and health-diminished residents. Burnaby Central Park is accessible only by car for most of such residents, whereas the library is just a short walk.

According to a description by council, the city hall highrise will be the first highrise, among many. This will eventually destroy the present library cite. This is very near-sighted because after losing this beautiful parkland area filled with beautiful trees and flowers, the city that will remain will be a more typical, dense, uninspired highrise city. What a colossal loss!

I have no preference between other two sites in the Bonsor area. Bonsor, although a pleasing green space, simply does not have the number of Burnaby residents who just sit enjoying the amazing uplifting nature area that the library site provides.
