Letter: Fire forces church to sideline Canada Day celebration

Loss of stage and mini golf station have compelled Brentwood Park Alliance Church to cancel its usual event, but it will still welcome visitors.

Brentwood Park Alliance Church won't be holding its usual Canada Day events this year after losing its mini golf station and stage in a fire.

Editor:

Since 2020, aside from a break during the pandemic, Brentwood Park Alliance Church has held a Canada Day celebration in our back parking lot, complete with food, games, entertainment, and standard Canada Day activities. We have loved meeting the community and providing a family-oriented activity for people every Canada Day.

In October of 2022, our shed that held many of the chairs, supplies, and games we use for Canada Day burned down. This included the destruction of one of the favourite games, our mini golf station and the stage for our entertainment.

Because of this, we will be taking a break from holding a Canada Day celebration at our church this year. We still will welcome passers-by with a small game for children and children at heart with freezies, and a few giveaways. We welcome people who have enjoyed our Canada Day activities in the past to come by and say hello. We also encourage people to go to the many activities that are happening around Burnaby on Canada Day.

Thank you,

Tracy Gidinski
