Summer camp worthwhile

Dear Editor:

This summer, I had the privilege of volunteering my time with the Comshare summer daycamp based out of Lochdale Community School. Comshare is staffed entirely by young people, most of them high school or university students, who care for elementary school children during the summer days.

Each day I arrive in for camp, I'm amazed at the dedication and talent all the volunteers and camp staff put into making sure the safety and enjoyment of the kids comes first.

Camps like Comshare can make all the difference in the lives of the youth involved in the program. That extends to the volunteers and staff as well as the younger children, since all gain valuable life experiences and a fantastic opportunity to make new friends, build on old friendships and experience things that they may not have been able to be part of through the normal school year.

It's been a fun way to spend my summer. I hope that next year when it comes time to register and find something to do with the months off from school, parents and students seriously consider coming to Comshare; it was amazing for me as a youth, and now again as a volunteer.
