The front windows at FiorDiLatte on Hastings in Burnaby Heights has been papered over for a long time.
This has left fans – myself included - of its extraordinary gelato feeling sad as we all wondered what was going on and if it would ever open again.
It will and soon, according to new owner Alex Radjenovic, who spoke to me from the renovated space on Friday.
Radjenovic has taken over FiorDiLatte and completed a renovation to turn the place into a full-blown bakery-gelato bar-café.
Radjenovic is a baker by trade and is known for the incredible baked goods he’s been selling at a number of farmers markets, including the one in Burnaby.
Once all the permits and approvals are in place, hopefully soon, FiorDiLatte will still have gelato made in-house (Radjenovic is training with the previous owner), but will also offer a huge variety of baked goodies. There will also be a full coffee bar featuring all of your favourite caffeinated beverages.
Radjenovic also promises some game-changing sandwiches featuring freshly smoked meats and bread that is baked in-house.
“We decided to up our game when it comes to the sandwiches,” Radjenovic said.
Radjenovic rented cooking space to bake his products and said this will definitely be a big change to have his own brick-and-mortar space.
“I would be at the markets and people would always ask me what was next and here we are,” he said.
