Why the first day of spring in Vancouver may look a little grey(ish)

Don't put away the raincoat just yet.

Vancouver may be in for a gloomier start to spring than local residents would likely prefer.

Around 20 mm of rainfall is predicted for most of the city on Thursday, March 20, according to the latest forecast by V.I.A.'s Weatherhood.

Westerly winds at around 20 km/h could bring in more clouds and dreary conditions for Downtown Centre and other surrounding neighbourhoods.

This includes Stanley Park, Yaletown, False Creek and Kitsilano, as well as south and east areas like Kerrisdale and Trout Lake.

Hastings-Sunrise may get the most rain on the first day of spring at approximately 25 mm, coupled with 15 km/h northeasterly winds.

Lighter rain in the amount of less than 10 mm is expected out at UBC that same day and half of the expected wind speed at around 10 km/h.

Gusts may be stronger to the south at nearly 25 km/h in communities like Langara, Killarney and the River District.

Temperatures, meanwhile, could read the same regardless of where in Vancouver residents call home.

Ahead of the first day of spring, Weatherhood is predicting the mercury will reach a high of 10 C and a low of 5 C for Wednesday and Thursday.

On Tuesday, Mount Pleasant should see a high of 9 C, with a bit more sun forecast for Dunbar and a high of 10 C.
