Two residents and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 at a North Burnaby seniors home.
The Fraser Health Authority announced the outbreak at Swedish Assisted Living Residence Wednesday afternoon.
The care home, located at 7230 Halifax St., is an assisted living facility owned and operated by the Swedish Canadian Rest Home Association.
The residents and staff member are currently in self-isolation at their homes, according to the health authority.
Fraser Health is working with the facility to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families, according to a news release.
The health authority is now:
- Supporting staff levels to maintain resident care.
- Restricting social visits in the affected areas of the facility (Essential visits can continue.)
- Modifying staff and residents movement in the affected areas of the facility
- Enhancing cleaning and infection control measures
- Notifying residents, families and staff
- Screening staff and residents twice a day
- Conducting additional testing and screening
“During this time, Fraser Health has additional presence at the site to take any further actions required and support the facility,” stated the release. “This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents.”
Fraser Health is urging everyone living in the health region to get tested as soon as they have COVID-19-like symptoms, even mild ones.
