With October about to give way to November, the annual Burnaby Christmas Bureau campaign will be kicking into high gear: registration begins in just a few days and continues throughout the month and the toy room is getting organized and stocked.
GET REGISTERED
Registration for local low-income families begins Nov. 1 and runs until Nov. 30 at the main bureau registration location, or at satellite locations around the city.
The main location is again in Metropolis at Metrotown, but in a new spot, in unit E8, on the upper level near Winners. This location is open daily from Nov. 1 until Nov. 30, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Alternate locations for registration include:
- Cameron Recreation Centre, 9523 Cameron St., Mondays from 9: 30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Nov. 7, 14, 21, and 28)
- McGill Library, 4595 Albert Street, Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
(Nov. 8, 15, 22 and 29, but not Nov. 1)
- Eastburn Community Centre (old library), 7252 Kingsway Ave., Wednesdays from 9: 30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30)
WHAT TO BRING
- If you do not receive income assistance, you will need: two current paycheques or EI stubs; proof of residency (phone bill, hydro bill, or tenancy agreement with your name and address); child tax benefit or Care Card or birth certificate with your children's names and birthdays on it. If you don't have cheque stubs, you can bring 2010 T1 General for each adult in the family and 2010 Notice of Assessment for each adult in the family.
- If you are on income assistance, you will need: current income assistance cheque stub; proof of residency (phone bill, hydro bill, or tenancy agreement with your name and address); child tax benefit or Care Card or birth certificate with your children's names and birthdays on it.
- If you are a new immigrant, you will also need: immigration papers (as alternative proof of income).
- If you are a student living on student loans, you will need: student loan papers (as alternative proof of income.)
