A Heights resident for four years, Yip knew this was the area she wanted to open her business, North Burnaby Physiotherapy and Wellness.
"I had a very specific location in mind," she says. "I wanted to be able to walk to work."
Yip and her employees share that sense of wellness with their clients, working on injuries and physical conditions with a holistic approach, she says, adding that she looks at incorporating healthy, active living into her clients' lifestyles, as well as improving movement and helping them recover.
"We want to help with mobility, and getting them back to their active lifestyles," she says.
As for what parts of the body she focuses on, "Anything from shoulders to ankles," she says.
The clinic treats everything from arthritic pain to injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents, according to Yip.
"We cover the whole spectrum," she adds. She looks at the way her clients move, she says, and helps them correct their ergonomics.
She works to educate clients about exercise and lifestyle changes that can help prevent injuries or conditions from being further aggravated.
The clinic also provides acupuncture, electro therapy and exercise therapy, to complement the sessions with the physiotherapist.
"I wanted to create a way to maximize people's time," Yip explains.
Yip works with a kinesiologist, and also has two administrative assistants helping her run the clinic.
She recently opened her new office at 103-A-3701 Hastings St.
The location appealed to her because it is central and has good parking, she says. "People drive by and know where it is," Yip says, adding the big sign at the clinic is particularly helpful.
Though she is an experienced physiotherapist, this is Yip's first foray into running her own business, she says.
"It's a big change," she says. "You have to think about everything, every aspect of the business."
