A Burnaby jazz singer is bringing her talents to the stage as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
Candus Churchill will be in the spotlight as part of the festival’s free Jazz Around Town series, with an appearance as part of the Jazz Vespers series at St. Andrew’s Wesley Church in downtown Vancouver.
Churchill, a prolific singer and actor who lives in Burnaby, is teaming up with Tom Pickett for a performance that fuses gospel, jazz and R&B music.
“Candus and Tom have honed their musical partnership through the years in concerts, film, TV, commercials and theatre across Canada and the U.S.,” a press release says. “Their vocal renditions send a spiritual message to touch, move and inspire their audience.”
They’re accompanied by Bill Sample on piano, Brian Newcombe on bass, Save Say on sax, Olaf de Shield on guitar and Lou Hoover on drums.
Their Jazz Vespers is set for 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 2 at St. Andrew’s Wesley Church, 1022 Nelson St. Admission is by donation. Parking is free on Sundays in the church lot.
