A Burnaby singer will be onstage when Early Music Vancouver presents two Handel masterpieces next weekend.
Doug Colpitts, a 41-year member of the Vancouver Cantata Singers, is onstage with the singers and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in an April 14 concert that features Handel’s Coronation Anthems and Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne. (The latter piece – which opens with Eternal Source of Light Divine, featuring trumpet and alto - will be familiar to royal-watchers, as it was heard during the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last year.)
Conductor Alexander Weimann leads the two ensembles and four internationally recognized vocal soloists: bass-baritone Sumner Thompson, tenor Ross Hauck, mezzo-soprano Vicki St. Pierre, and soprano Danielle Sampson.
The concert closes Music Vancouver’s 2018/19 season and will also feature the announcement of the organization’s 2019/20 season – its 50th anniversary.
It’s onstage Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
Tickets start at $18. Call 604-822-2697 or see earlymusic.bc.ca.
