A 23-year-old man has been charged in a shooting in Burnaby earlier this year.

On May 6, just before 8:30 a.m., police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Norland Avenue and Douglas Road, according to an emailed Burnaby RCMP statement.

"The victim reported that he had been shot at while sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot in the area," read the statement. "The suspect fled the scene immediately following the incident."

Burnaby RCMP said the men were known to each other and the weapon used was a handgun.

On Monday, Sept. 23, Ankit Joshi of Burnaby was charged with unlawfully discharging a firearm, careless use or storage of a firearm and possessing a firearm without a licence or registration.

The charge document states Joshi is accused of intentionally discharging a restricted firearm "into or at a place knowing or being reckless as to whether another person was present or being reckless as to the life or safety of another person."

Joshi didn't show up for his first scheduled appearance in Vancouver provincial court Tuesday, according to a Court Services Online entry.

His next appearance is scheduled for Oct. 22 for an application for a warrant.
