Police in Burnaby are urging vigilance after three serious pedestrian-involved collisions in the city in less than 24 hours.

"With the shorter, colder days this time of year, it's now more important than ever to be focused on road safety," Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj told the NOW. "The past couple of days have definitely reminded us of this."

At about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, emergency crews responded to a man hit by a vehicle at Dawson Street and Gilmore Avenue.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 911 call in that incident came from the driver, who was concerned for the man, according to Burnaby RCMP.

Less than 12 hours later, at about 11 a.m. Thursday, a woman was struck and killed in the 4300 block of Hastings Street.

Another woman was then hit on Hastings Street just two blocks away at 6:35 p.m.

The driver in that case stopped as well, and the woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

"Whether you are a driver, a cyclist, a pedestrian or simply near the roadway, please be vigilant," Kalanj said. "We want everybody to make it to their destination safely."
