Carrie McLaren has been named as the BC Green Party candidate in Burnaby South-Metrotown.

The BC Green Party has announced its second Burnaby candidate for the 2024 provincial election.

Carrie McLaren has been nominated in the Burnaby South-Metrotown riding and will join Tara Shustarian, who is running for the Greens in Burnaby East.

McLaren spent six years as a director for a Burnaby non-profit housing organization.

"Carrie has gained invaluable insights into the difficulties of finding homes for individuals with complex needs," reads McLaren's biography on the party's website.

"This experience deepened her commitment to ensuring that everyone has access to safe, stable, and affordable housing."

In a news release, BC Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau said McLaren is a leader the province needs.

McLaren was included the same announcement as Kerri Wall for Kootenay-Rockies, Francoise Renaut for Vancouver-Fraserview and Jed Wiebe for Salmon Arm-Shuswap.

"Kerri, Carrie, Jed and Francoise are exactly the kind of thoughtful, committed, and compassionate leaders we need.

"Together, they will work tirelessly to ensure that every British Columbian can thrive in a fair and sustainable society."

McLaren has previously put her name forward in politics, running for the Burnaby Green Party during the 2022 municipal election.

She received 8,276 votes (25.7 per cent) and finished fourth behind Coun. Daniel Tetrault, who secured the last available city council seat.

General voting day for the provincial election is set for Oct. 19.
