Hundreds are expected to take over Swangard Stadium in Burnaby on Sunday, Sept. 17 for the 2023 Terry Fox Run.

Burnaby has already gone above and beyond its efforts to raise funds in Terry Fox's name.

As of today, Sept. 10, one week ahead of the local event of the Terry Fox Run, organizations have collected more than $18,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

And the total is still climbing, according to the national fundraiser's website, to which the money will be earmarked for cancer research.

The Burnaby chapter initially set a fundraising target of $17,000.

Local residents, businesses and organizations have come through once more with generous donations, but none more than Bailey Jung, who's raised $13,050 since the start of the campaign.

Hundreds are expected to run, job, walk and even wheel around Swangard Stadium (6100 Boundary Rd.) next Sunday, Sept. 17, many of whom might be wearing the special #DearTerry t-shirts designed by B.C. actor Ryan Reynolds.

Burnaby's Terry Fox Run will start at 10 a.m. in Central Park, with registration opening at 9 a.m..

Those that prefer to participate on bicycles, wheelchairs, scooters and even rollerblades are encouraged to do so. Residents may bring their dogs, but are not allowed to in the stadium.

While subject to change, Weatherhood says Burnaby is likely to see sunny skies next weekend with temperatures hovering between 20 and 25°C.
