Burnaby firefighters are raising money after the “fire family” was rocked by a devastating crash.
A GoFundMe page has been set up after a July 26 crash thatseriously injured Madeline (Maddy) Stroup, the daughter of Burnaby Fire Captain Dean Stroup and Emergency Program Officer for Port Coquitlam Fire Department, Tara Stroup.
“The incident has tragically taken the life of Hayden Turcotte, Maddy’s boyfriend,” reads a posting on the fundraising page. “May he rest in peace. Also in the vehicle was their friend, Tyrell Gait, who has been released from hospital. We ask that you keep both of these boys and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Maddy, Hayden and Tyrell were making their way in the early afternoon to pick up another friend and head to the family cabin when they were unexpectedly struck by another vehicle. As a result, Maddy was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital where she is fighting the type of fight that we all know a Stroup daughter would.
“Currently, she is in an induced coma with family and friends constantly by her side. The Burnaby Fire family has started this page to assist in the day to day costs and to help plan for expenses going forward.”
Firefighters have raised more than $30,000 so far.
