Burnaby man charged in connection with alleged Lower Mainland drug ring

Randy Chu has been charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in connection with an alleged Lower Mainland drug trafficking network.

A 40-year-old Burnaby man has been charged in connection with an alleged Lower Mainland drug trafficking operation.

The province's Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit launched an investigation into the alleged network last June, according to a CFSEU news release Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The investigation led to raids at locations in Richmond, Burnaby and Surrey last August, the release said.

In search warrants executed at two residences, officers found kilograms of drugs, according to police, including 12.7 kg of methamphetamine, 4.7 kg of fentanyl, 1.6 kg of cocaine, 1.6 kg of ketamine and one kilogram of cutting agents.

A search of a vehicle revealed nine kilograms of cocaine in a hidden aftermarket compartment, police said.

Police also seized $79,050 in Canadian currency, as well as drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking, according to the release.

Randy Chu of Burnaby has now been charged with one count of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Samardeep Dhami, 22, of Surrey has been charged with one count of possessing fentanyl, flurofentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and/or ketamine for the purpose of trafficking.

Both Chu and Dhami were arrested and released with conditions while awaiting their next court dates.

"The collaborative work by CFSEU-BC and partner agencies is key when combatting criminal activity associated to organized crime," CFSEU media relations officer Sgt. Brenda Winpenny said in the release. "We remain committed to holding accountable drug traffickers who prey on the most vulnerable citizens in our communities by trafficking in potentially deadly fentanyl and other substances."
