One person is dead after a single-vehicle collision at Canada Way and Kensington Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Police are investigating the cause of a deadly single-vehicle crash in Burnaby Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to Canada Way and Kensington Avenue at about 5:10 p.m. for reports of a single-vehicle collision, according to a Burnaby RCMP statement.

The lone occupant of the vehicle died, police said, but there were no other injuries.

Photos from the scene show an SUV with a smashed front end on the sidewalk facing a stone wall.

“The cause of the crash is under investigation,” read the statement.

The incident snarled traffic as police shut down the eastbound lanes of Canada Way during the afternoon rush hour.

It was the second fatal crash in Burnaby in just over 12 hours.

Shortly before 5 a.m., police had shut down Hastings Street by Willingdon Avenue after a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of one person involved.
