Police are investigating a fatal collision in Burnaby early Wednesday morning.
Capitol Hill resident Ryan Bonato said he heard a loud crashing sound from his home several blocks away just before 5 a.m.
“It was loud," he said. "It sounded like an excavator had fallen off a trailer or something really loud like that.”

At the crash scene on Hastings Street near Willingdon Avenue, he saw a badly damaged pickup truck that had flipped on its side and another smashed vehicle.
“You couldn’t tell what kind of car it was anymore,” Bonato said.
Photos Bonato took show a figure lying under a blanket beside the badly damaged vehicle.
An ambulance was just rushing from the scene when Bonato arrived, he said.
Burnaby RCMP confirmed one person died in the crash.
The RCMP's Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is investigating, and Hastings is closed between Alpha and Rosser avenues.
Albert and Pender streets are also closed.
"Drivers can expect delays, likely for several more hours, due to the ongoing investigation," stated a Burnaby RCMP email.
