A police incident in the Willingdon Avenue and Lougheed Highway area has put two local schools into lockdown.

A police incident in the Willingdon Avenue and Lougheed Highway area has put two local schools into lockdown.

"(Brentwood Park) Elementary and Holy Cross Elementary have been closed down so we are asking people to stay out of that area while we deal with the police incident," said Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Brenda Gresiuk. "We are dealing with an unfolding police incident not related to the schools in the area. We've just closed down two schools as a precautionary measure."

Gresiuk said the incident is contained to a house in the area and local RCMP are on the scene trying to resolve the incident.

Gresiuk said the schools will remain closed until RCMP "can do a full assessment and make sure that they area is safe."

"We're hoping to have it resolved as soon as we can," she said.

School District No. 41 has put a notice on its website informing parents of the lockdown.
