Burnaby RCMP to Cram the Cruiser for Burnaby Neighbourhood House

The food drive will take place on Dec. 5 and 6.

The Burnaby RCMP will be hosting its Cram the Cruiser event for the Burnaby Neighbourhood House.

The Burnaby RCMP is inviting the public to help them Cram the Cruiser for the Burnaby Neighbourhood House. 

Officers from the Community Response Team (CRT) will be taking donations of non-perishable food items, grocery gift cards and cash to help Burnaby Neighbourhood Houses food hubs. 

In 2024, 2,495 people visited the organizations two food hubs.

Each year, Burnaby Neighbourhood House also provides roughly 27,500 hampers and 62,00 meals to seniors, children and families. 

"Every year we are amazed by the generosity of our community as we collect donations during Cram the Cruiser," Burnaby RCMP Community Programs Officer Insp. Peri Mainwaring said in a news release.

"Every donation collected during the food drive will directly support people in Burnaby experiencing food insecurity and help Burnaby Neighbourhood House offer critical food programming through the holidays and beyond."

The 2024 food drive will take place on the following days: 

  • Thursday, Dec. 5 - Safeway Burnaby Heights (4440 Hastings Street) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 6 - Superstore Metrotown (Kingsway entrance) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Burnaby Neighbourhood House's top then choices for food donations are: 

  1. Zero or low sodium tinned vegetables, soups, and beans
  2. Whole wheat or vegetable pastas
  3. Low sugar tomato or pasta sauce
  4. Peanut or other nut butters
  5. Whole grain crackers and low sugar cereals
  6. Unsweetened applesauce or canned fruit in juice
  7. Canned tuna in water, canned chicken or salmon
  8. Healthy canned stews or chili
  9. Brown rice, barley, lentils, dried peas, quinoa, or couscous
  10. Shelf stable milk and milk alternatives
