The City of Burnaby has once again won a national bookkeeping award, along with an international award.

The city and its finance director, Noreen Kassam, won the Government Finance Officers Association of Canada’s Canadian Award for Financial Reporting, Mayor Mike Hurley announced this week in council. The win marks the sixth consecutive year the city has taken home the prize.

What’s more, Hurley announced the city also won the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada’s Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the 2018 financial report.

The award recognizes creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal, according to Hurley. The city also got an award for its 2019 budget, Hurley said, which recognizes budget documents that meet criteria as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

“On behalf of council, I would like to congratulate the director of finance and her team on their diligence in upholding the City of Burnaby’s expectations of sound financial management practices and financial reporting,” Hurley said.
