The case count has grown at a seniors living facility in Burnaby amid an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
Fraser Health declared an outbreak at the Swedish Assisted Living Residence on Oct. 19, 2021, when three cases were detected involving two residents and a staff member.
The latest provincial outbreak report for long-term care, assisted living and independent living facilities shows there have now been six confirmed cases involving four staff and two residents.
The care home, located at 7230 Halifax St., is an assisted living facility owned and operated by the Swedish Canadian Rest Home Association.
When the outbreak was declared, the health authority said it had taken the following extra precautionary measures:
- Supporting staff levels to maintain resident care
- Restricting social visits in the affected areas of the facility (Essential visits can continue)
- Modifying staff and residents movement in the affected areas of the facility
- Enhancing cleaning and infection control measures
- Notifying residents, families and staff
- Screening staff and residents twice a day
- Conducting additional testing and screening
“During this time, Fraser Health has additional presence at the site to take any further actions required and support the facility,” a bulletin said.
“This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents.”
There are three other outbreaks affecting care facilities in Burnaby at the Willingdon Care Centre, Rideau Retirement Residence and Cascade Gardens Seniors Community.
