Athletic folks can celebrate as French sports brand Decathlon has announced the opening of its flagship Metro Vancouver store at Metropolis at Metrotown on April 27.
The 38,000-square-foot shop will span two storeys near the mall's grand court.
The store will feature zones of specific sports, focusing on local favourites such as:
- hiking
- camping
- trekking
- winter sports (e.g. skiing and snowboarding)
- urban mobility (e.g. including cycling and mountain biking)
- water sports
The store will have a year-round hiking and camping showroom with tents, gear and accessories, as well as a year-round cycling showroom with a test space for bikes, scooters and roller skates.
An in-store workshop will be a space to tune-up and repair bikes, kayaks and paddleboards and service other products "to increase longevity of purchase," said a press release.
There will also be "play zones" for table tennis, tetherball and other sports.
The Metrotown shop will be the first Canadian Decathlon to feature its new brand identity which was unveiled earlier this month.
Guillaume Hautson, regional manager of British Columbia for Decathlon, said the overarching vision for Decathlon is to "move people through the wonders of sport."
"Opening our flagship store at Metropolis at Metrotown will help us reach a wider, more diverse audience, ultimately connecting even more people to the benefits of movement and the outdoors and proudly bringing the Decathlon experience coast to coast," Hautson said in the release.
Amanda Chung, marketing manager of Metropolis at Metrotown, said the mall is honoured to welcome Decathlon to the shopping centre.
"The brand's focus on accessibility and inclusion is a great fit for us and will further support our ability to offer an innovative, elevated and diverse retail experience for everyone."
Decathlon has more than 1,700 stores across 60 countries, including 20 Canadian stores.
