A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Burnaby Hospital.

Eleven cases have been discovered amid an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at Burnaby Hospital, according to Fraser Health.

The outbreak was declared on Feb. 17, 2022, but no details involving the number of cases, units affected or breakdown among patients and staff were provided. The health authority now says evidence of transmission was found in a medicine unit.

The emergency department at the hospital remains open and there have been no impacts to any other areas of the hospital.

The last outbreak at the hospital was declared on Jan. 12, 2022, when evidence of transmission had been discovered across three wards including three cases involving patients in a surgical unit, eight patients in an acute care elders unit and two patients in a medicine unit.

The affected units were temporarily closed to admissions.

The outbreak declaration was then lifted Jan. 27, 2022.
