Two Burnaby eateries are being recognized for their contributions to the culinary industry.
DoorDash Canada and Monday Girl selected 16 restaurants across Canada to each receive a $10,000 grant, which can be used for numerous business expenses including renovations, new equipment and inventory.
Burnaby restaurants Joy Sushi (4248 Dawson St.) and Na-Re Korean Kitchen (7413 Edmonds St.) are among those receiving the five-figure funds.
“Ms. Jin, the dedicated heart behind Na-Re Korean Kitchen, pours her soul into her cozy Korean restaurant," Rose and Young Jin Koo, the mother and daughter duo of Na-Re Korean Kitchen, said in a news release.
"Our menu, featuring traditional Korean dishes with a modern twist like bulgogi pasta and Korean Fried Chicken, evokes a sense of home for every patron. This grant from DoorDash will not only help us upgrade our website and kitchen equipment, but it will more importantly help us invest in our staff who are core to the success of our restaurant. There isn’t a day where we aren’t supporting our community, whether that’s delivering homemade kimchi to our local church or even sourcing ingredients for our recipes from local suppliers.”
“We are thrilled to partner with DoorDash Canada on the Made by Women grant program,” Monday Girl Co-Founder Rachel Wong said.
“Our collaboration aims to empower women entrepreneurs to thrive in the competitive culinary industry."
