Another Burnaby long-term care facility has been placed under a COVID-19 declaration after an outbreak was detected.
Fraser Health says there have been 27 confirmed cases at Dania Home in Burnaby involving 13 residents and 14 staff members.
Residents and staff are currently in self-isolation in their homes.
"Fraser Health has worked with the sites to support the implementation of enhanced control measures," the authority said in a statement today (Jan. 10).
"Fraser Health is also working with the sites to identify anyone who may have been exposed, and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families."
The following measures were proactively implemented, according to Fraser Health:
- Staffing levels are being supported to maintain resident care
- Social visits are restricted in the affected areas of the facility. Essential visits can continue
- Staff and residents movement in the affected areas of the facility has been modified to minimize exposure to others
- Cleaning and infection control measures have been further enhanced
- Residents, families and staff are being notified
- Twice a day screening of all staff and residents is taking place
- Additional testing and screening is in place to support monitoring of disease control
There are also ongoing outbreaks at Chartwell Carlton Garden, New Vista Care Centre, George Derby Centre and AgeCare Harmony Court.
On Dec. 29, 2021, an outbreak was declared by Fraser Health at Burnaby's AgeCare Harmony Court after two confirmed cases were discovered involving one resident and one staff member.
As of Jan. 5, 2022, there had been 22 cases involving 17 residents and five staff.
The facility also went through a fatal outbreak that began on Nov. 19, 2020, and saw 116 cases involving 73 residents and 43 staff members.
Of the 73 residents that were infected, 30 passed away.
The outbreaks at New Vista Care Centre and Chartwell Carlton Gardens were declared on New Year's Eve.
As of Jan. 5, 2022, there had been 15 lab-confirmed cases involving seven residents and eight staff members.
The Chartwell Carlton Garden outbreak has seen a total of five cases which involves one resident and four staff members.
The Goerge Derby Centre had its second outbreak declared in less than a month five days ago with six confirmed cases involving four residents and two staff.
