SFU StreetFest, a two-day festival begins Friday, Sept. 15.

It's that time of the year when leaves start turning red and orange, temperatures start dropping, and the sweaters, coats and the boots come out.

But it's not yet time to go into hibernation. There's a great deal of activities (many still outdoor) happening in Burnaby this fall to motivate you to hit up the city and have fun.

Here's some of the things happening in Burnaby this weekend to pack your calendars:

Neighbourhood speaker series

Learn about the history of Burnaby's South Asian community this fall through fun, interactive, in-person tours and presentations. The tour, is the first of the four (happening next weekend), will go on from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will highlight the uniqueness of Ismaili Centres. This is for all the curious souls and history nerds.

Due to limited spaces for each session, registrations are required and can be made by emailing [email protected] or calling 604-297-4565. For more information, you can visit the museum's website.

Car Trunk sale

With inflation driving up costs, many of us feel our wallets feeling lighter and lighter. If you’re on the lookout for some good bargain deals, a fun thrifting experience is coming to Burnaby this Saturday — a car trunk sale.

On Sept. 16, head to Bill Copeland Sports Centre (3676 Kensington Ave.) for Burnaby’s fall Car Trunk Sale, where you can hunt for great deals. The admission is free for those who want to just browse.

If you have unwanted, pre-loved items you would like part ways with, you can call 604-297-4521 to rent a stall (prices vary from $15 to $22 plus taxes). There are a limited number of parking stalls, so if you wish to sell your items out of your car trunk, you might want to reserve a spot soon.

  • Where: Bill Copeland Sports Centre (3676 Kensington Ave.)

New to You market

Out with the old, in with the new — if you’re one preparing for a wardrobe reset, but want to be smart about your money, thrifting is a great option. Aside from the Car Trunk Sale in Burnaby, another market in the city prepares you for that fall shopping without breaking your bank.

New to You market on Saturday, Sept. 16 is operated by the St Stephen's Thrift Shop as a monthly market of high quality used goods. There would be great deals on gently used clothing, shoes, purses, bags, housewares, books, and more.

The money from the market support the church and a variety of international, national, and local charities selected at the end of each year. For more information on donating to our Thrift Shop can be found here.
