Four quadrants of Burnaby all seeing major COVID-19 drops

With B.C. on track to move into Phase 2 of its restart plan in 13 days, vaccination rates continue to increase while case counts and test positivity decreases. 

The latest BCCDC COVID-19 Surveillance Dashboard data shows the province improving as a whole, while the four regional areas of Burnaby seeing major drops from May 25-31. 

The data is released by the BC Centre for Disease Control. 

On Tuesday (June 1), B.C. recorded just 184 new infections, which was the lowest number since Oct. 20, 2020, which equates to 32 weeks. 

The number of people actively battling COVID-19 infections fell for the 27th consecutive data update, and now sits at 2,800  – a level not seen since October 30. 

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a joint statement that 70.4% of all adults in B.C. and 67% of all residents older than 12, have had a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. 

Burnaby's latest regional numbers for May 25-31 are as follows: 

BURNABY NORTHWEST

  • Case rate: 4
  • Positivity rate: 4%
  • Vaccination percentage of those 12 years and older: 72% (as of May 31)
  • Vaccination percentage of those 18 years and older: 74% (as of May 31)

BURNABY NORTHEAST

  • Case rate: 5
  • Positivity rate: 4%
  • Vaccination percentage of those 12 years and older: 70% (as of May 31)
  • Vaccination percentage of those 18 years and older: 73% (as of May 31)

BURNABY SOUTHWEST

  • Case rate: 6
  • Positivity rate: 5
  • Vaccination percentage of those 12 years and older: 68% (as of May 31)
  • Vaccination percentage of those 18 years and older: 71% (as of May 31)

BURNABY SOUTHEAST

  • Case rate: 7
  • Positivity rate: 6
  • Vaccination percentage of those 12 years and older: 68% (as of May 31)
  • Vaccination percentage of those 18 years and older: 71% (as of May 31)

Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix will release another joint statement with the latest COVID-19 data on Wednesday (June 2) afternoon.
