Chum salmon are spawning in Stoney Creek in Burnaby, B.C.

Happy salmon spawning season!

Chum salmon are beginning to enter local streams where they will spawn, said Mark Angelo, renowned environmentalist and Burnaby resident.

"It's always so special to see this right in the midst of our city," Angelo told the Burnaby NOW.

Angelo said a fair number of salmon are currently gathering at the outlet of Burnaby Lake.

"Over the next week or two, (they) will work their way to a number of upstream creeks including Guichon Creek, Still Creek, Eagle Creek, Beecher Creek, among others," he said.

Watch: Angelo saw this salmon jump a small waterfall at Stoney Creek.
