Burnaby's city manager, Bob Moncur, and deputy city manager Chad Turpin were both honoured for their long years of service by the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators.
Both received awards for 25 years of service with the city, though Mayor Derek Corrigan pointed out at the June 18 council meeting that they had worked for the city for longer.
Turpin has actually worked for the City of Burnaby for 40 years, Corrigan said.
Turpin was also given a Long Service Award for 35 years from the Local Government Management Association of B.C. this year.
Job centres open
New employment centres opened in Burnaby as of April 2, when the province launched its new Employment Program for B.C.
The centres are run by GTI Hiring Solutions, which has run employment programs throughout B.C. for 18 years, according to the company's CEO Frank Bourree.
The location at 600-1901 Rosser Ave. is having its ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 5, though it also opened in April, he said.
There is also a centre in South Burnaby, at 14710 Kingsway, and the company subcontracts out to Mosaic, a non-profit agency for assisting immigrants, at 7297 Kingsway, as well.
For more information on the services offered under the new program, as well as centre locations, go to www.workbc.ca.
