Police look for evidence after an injured man was found on Hastings Street Thursday night.

Hastings Street near Madison Avenue was shut down in both directions Thursday night for a man suffering from what police believe were “self-inflicted” injuries.

Emergency crews were called to the 4300 block of Hastings just after 10 p.m. for reports of an "injured man lying on the road," according to an emailed Burnaby RCMP statement.

First responders attended to the man, and he was taken to hospital, the email said.

Police said the man's injuries are "not suspicious" and investigators believe they were "self-inflicted."

"The incident resulted in a temporary road closure on Hastings Street as investigators determined the circumstances of what had happened," the RCMP email said.

An onlooker who posted on Reddit said a police officer at the scene asked them if they had seen a man being assaulted.
