Those looking for more choices when it comes to grocery stores in the southern part of the city are in luck – a new store is opening this summer.
Choices Markets is moving its production facility from Richmond to Marine Way in Burnaby, according to Tyler Romano, Choices’ marketing manager. They expect to open by the end of the month, he said.
“We have a production facility in Richmond right now. We refer to it as our commissary, and it has our deli and our bakery operations, where we create all of our food items,” he said. “That’s starting to run out of space with the expansion of Choices.”
The facility will occupy 20,000 square feet in the New Haven business park at Glenlyon Parkway and Marine Way.
“We’ve simply outgrown our existing commissary,” Ishkandar Ahmed, CEO of Choices Markets, stated in a press release. “This new space will allow our executive chef to let his creative juices flow and allow us to offer more new, exciting and unique offerings to our customers. This move will ultimately allow us an even greater variety of fresh products in all of our stores.”
There will also be a Choices store on site, with a focus on deli foods, premade meals, sandwiches, and other foods that might be popular with people working in the industrial businesses and warehouses in the neighbourhood, Romano said.
“It will be a smaller store in the front than a traditional Choices, just because of the size, but it will have everything that Choices has,” he added.
There is one other Choices location in Burnaby, on 10th Avenue at Crest Plaza. The new store will be the ninth Choices to open in B.C. For more information, go to www.choicesmarkets.com.
