Each year when the heavy rains hit in the fall and winter, one area always seems to flood.
That’s the area around Still Creek, just north of Highway 1 and around Willingdon.
The NOW’s photographer always knows to drop by this area on really rainy days because the road might be closed due to flooding.
But what constitutes flooding?
Burnaby resident Kelly Pickell would like more of an answer from the City of Burnaby.
Pickell has written the city about a section of trail she says it flooding at 4401 Still Creek Dr., which is west of Willingdon.
The city has done work on this section of trail and added berms on either side.
“Now this property (at) 4401 Still Creek Drive is pumping water onto the trail and it cannot flow into the creek because of the new berms holding it in place,” Pickell said in a letter to the city.
She’s written the city a couple of times and furnished me with emailed responses based on the photo embedded in this story.
The city responded by saying the city was aware of this area, but that there is “no flooding.”
“Why is this not flooding,” Pickell asked. “What depth of water constitutes flooding the trail was impassable?”
Pickell is also concerned that people could be injured by the large hoses that are pictured.
What do you think? It sure looks like flooding to me. Then again, I’m not a certified engineer. I don't know if this is causing damage, but I have to agree with Pickell about the flooding part.
