The Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre hosted a Month of O-Hanami, celebrating the cherry blossom season with programming throughout April.
Saturday, April 27 featured a kimono dressing demonstration with skilled assistants, under the guidance of Fumiko Horan (kimono technician for Shōgun), dressing models in kimono. A traditional Japanese wrapping cloths session was also held, as well as a Soran (traditional group) dance performed by Gladstone students and a samurai sword training workshop.
The festival concludes Sunday, April 28, with a Sakura-themed Kumikō (incense ceremonies) and a slide lecture sharing insights into the cultural significance of cherry blossoms (sakura).
